What we can do

Damn these politicians. They are hardcore criminals. The youth should join politics to end this bullshit. I love India .This is the typical talk of most Indian youth.

True, there are many politicians who have the  conscience of  an insect.True, youngsters in politics will make a difference .And true ,we all love India.

But we do have to realise some things here.Aint these politicians a part of the society we live in? Can we all join politics? We can all disdain the scams and the swiss bank details. We can all like the facebook page of Anna Hazare. We can all shout out  that we love India. But are these the only things we can do?  Is there something we lack ? Let us breakdown.

Unfit politicians.
Are they coming on a flight from hell !? Nah, they have been born and brought up in the same society you and I live in. Most of us  grow up watching petty corruption here and there.Infact, people here are okay with carrying a hundred rupee note instaed of their driving license. We see many  taking sides when it comes to caste, religion and every goddamn thing .Watching all this how can we expect our baby politicians to grow up into the unbiased and uncorrupted leaders,we all cherish to see?

This reminds me of an IDEA ad where abhishek comes up with something to get rid of castes. He makes the poeple of his village call eachother by their mobile numbers. And the ad ends up on a positive note with people hugging eachother. Well, I think otherwise . They would have made some groups like " the 98.... samithi or the AIRTEL sena  ". Who knows they might have ended up demolishing some cell towers and asked for a seperate state.
Let me make my point clear. No matter what, things don't change unless there is a change in the outlook.

So ,should  the youth with the right aptitude get into politics?
A better question might be " Could a typical youth join the Indian politics and attain a significant position ,say by end of his twenties, without compromising his moral sense? "
I would be dumbstruck if someone does that. You might  get a chance to be a CM or even the PM if you have a  politically rich mummy or a daddy. But its an astounding task even to become an MLA,with low cash and no political support.

But its not the end of the road . One could get into Civil Services if he or she has the right conviction to make an impact .Ofcourse it is not a cakewalk. But who said bringing change is easy? Just think of Jayaprakash Narayan and Kiran bedi. The poeple I respect ,not just for being some good civil service officers but for their beliefs and their determination.

Its always good to have people like them . But what about the rest of us. Shall we play dead and wait for the few good administrators or some divine force to change everything !?

Let me narrate you an incident first. A professor walks into a classroom and starts off with introductions. In the middle of something , he declares  that all the students from a particular state have come only to get a good dowry. And he walks out with  no retaliation. Absolutely none. And you know who these guys are? They are not from a remote college that you have never heard of. They are from one of the most prestigious engineering colleges in India. Now, why were their mouths shut? Have they become deaf and dumb? In a way , yes. And this is why

Our Indian education system doesn't encourage the students to rasie their voices. All that is taught is how to cram in loads of knowledge and not the ways to use it .Also ,they are not taught to develop their own view points. For example , if you ask a school going kid about Gandhi or Bose , he/she  might say all about their history. But if you ask which one do they like the most or what they like in them ,you would most likely get a zero response.Because it is not in their text books.

So what do we do?
Let us speak and let us teach . Let us speak out what is right .And let us teach that to our kins .You and I alone can't change an entire society. But we can change one thing .Our mindset.
Wishing for a better tommorow
                                                                - A fellow Indian.

(After a talk with someone  I think is worthy of being an IAS )
